Albert Road celebrates 70 years of the NHS: after-event report

Albert Road Surgery hosted a successful Tea Party for all members of the public on Wednesday 18 July 2018.

The event was well attended, mixed with members of the general public, registered patients, local healthcare providers and surgery staff.

Attendees had the opportunity to meet with old and existing staff members of the practise. The event was to celebrate the NHS turning 70 years old, and gave attendees the opportunity to have their shingles vaccinations. Patients also had access to refreshments.

The event provided a great platform for local healthcare services to engage with one another, promoting a holistic and community based approach to healthcare. The local services that attended were:

  • CYANA Cancer Support, a patient-led charity, set up in 1982, to provide support services to patients, their cares and their families. They do this in a holistic way, and offer it to anyone affected by a cancer diagnosis.
  • CGL Newham Rise, a free and confidential drug and alcohol service for daults and people affected by someone else’s substance use. They do this in a variety of ways, such as workshops, brief interventions and structured groups.
  • The Renewal Programme, a charity that works with the community in Newham to transform and inspire lives. They offer services such as supported housing, training and education, and a refugee and migrant project.
  • Age UK, a charity that tries to aid older members of the public, in a variety of ways, including health and care advice, campaigning and research, and befriending schemes.
  • The Newham Community Dental Team
